Closed Socket Industries Tech
Notes
I’ve combined some resources,
and updated and corrected some of the details to provide a
good study guide. Don’t just memorize the details, however,
go learn this by tearing open some computers. You’ll thank
yourself later.

Drive installation --- When installing a new
IDE drive, you must set the Master/Slave jumper with
regard to other drives on the cable. There can only
be one Master and one slave per cable. When
installing a new floppy drive, remember that the red
stripe goes towards the power supply in most cases.
Look for an identifier of pin 1, this should always
go towards the power adapter. If the floppy access
light remains constant when the computer is booted,
the cable is backwards. Shut down the system and
reconfigure the cable.
